Stonewall Community Foundation is the only public foundation focused on the needs of New York’s diverse LGBTQ community. With a focus on the five boroughs, we strengthen LGBTQ New York by thoughtfully engaging and mobilizing donors and investing in dynamic organizations. We raise and direct funds toward the incredible efforts being made to celebrate LGBTQ lives and cultural contributions, defend our rights, and secure our freedom. Your gift to Stonewall helps advance our vision of a thriving LGBTQ New York.
Founded in 1990, at a time when many in our community faced immeasurable loss and uncertainty, Stonewall embodies a collective commitment to building a brighter future. And although our primary focus is on the five boroughs of New York, this mission is far-reaching. In just 25 years, we have awarded nearly $18 million in grants in New York and beyond, funding in 30+ issue areas, including:
COMMUNITY DRIVES OUR WORK
Our programs are guided by two decades of experience and rely on community participation. Today, Stonewall comprises more than 50 funds, which together award about $750,000 annually. In addition to grantmaking, we administer eight scholarship programs that benefit a range of LGBTQ people, including athletes, immigrants, homeless women, and people with Parkinson’s disease. Stonewall also convenes donors for educational forums and sponsors year-round trainings for nonprofit staff and volunteers, covering topics like financial management, board service, fundraising, communications, and community organizing.
As a community foundation, Stonewall sees every day as Giving Tuesday. And since giving to Stonewall means giving through Stonewall, you can be sure that your donation on Giving Tuesday will be used to further causes that are in critical need our attention and support.
