Sexual harassment/assault against K-12 students has devastating consequences. Students fall behind in classwork, drop out, lose friends, endure shame, and sometimes take their own lives. It’s no wonder that the National Centers for Disease Control now recognizes sexual violence and harassment, homophobic name-calling, and unwanted sexual touching as major public health concerns for adolescents. This crisis in our schools is coming out into the open.

Stop Sexual Assault in Schools nonprofit (SSAIS.org) was founded by parents whose lives were thrown into chaos when their 15 year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by a peer on a school field trip. Their two-year quest for accountability included a U.S. Dept. of Education investigation that received extensive media coverage. SSAIS now spearheads a national movement to combat the epidemic of sexual violence in K-12 schools—the breeding ground for sexual assaults taking place in colleges across the country.

We’ve worked tirelessly to build the only national nonprofit dedicated to addressing sexual harassment/assault and students’ rights at the K-12 level.  Since we incorporated in April 2015:

  • SSAIS created a unique, comprehensive, one-stop website resource at Stop Sexual Assault in Schools.org
  • Our activism has been praised in the Huffington Post
  • The National Women’s Law Center declared itself “energized” by SSAIS’s “big work” and provided the inaugural blog for our newly launched website
  • The Feminist Majority Foundation, ACLU of WA State, Title IX Blog, End Rape on Campus, Culture of Respect, The UnSlut Project, The Hunting Ground and It Happened Here films have promoted SSAIS as a valued resource
  • SSAIS helped families file Title IX U.S. Department of Education Title IX complaints in Texas, Oregon, and Michigan
  • SSAIS created a simple procedure that prompts students, families, and  stakeholders to engage school districts to become Title IX compliant
  • SSAIS continues to build awareness and advocacy through local and national media coverage, including our Huffington Post Op-Ed on a comprehensive solution to K-12 sexual violence.

SSAIS is ready to bring this solution to every family in the country. Your tax-deductible donation will enable us to:

  • Develop free, engaging online educational videos for families and their advocates, that explain students’ rights and recourses when experiencing sexual harassment and violence
  • Create scenario-based trainings for over 13,000 districts nation-wide that teach school staff their responsibilities under Title IX, a federal civil rights law.
  • Implement youth engagement projects to change the culture of K-12 schools to one of tolerance, respect, and equity.

Donate today to support this comprehensive solution--so all students can experience their right to an equal education, free from sexual harassment, sexual violence, and gender based discrimination.
