Suited for Change has outfitted over 20,000 women with professional attire and accessories since its founding in 1992. Started by a local resident out of the basement of her home, Suited for Change has grown into a sophisticated boutique with a full complement of business suits, separates, shoes, and accessories. Our inventory comes from the generous donations of professional women throughout the DC metro region.

Each woman who visits our boutique has a unique and inspiring story to tell. Denise Greene-Wood is just one example.

Denise Greene-Wood is a Gulf War veteran who came to Suited for Change in 2010. It had been a tough year for Denise. A victim of the Great Recession,  she was laid off from her previous position and had been unemployed for over a year.

She experienced some weight gain and self-doubt during the time she was unemployed. Her self-esteem needed a boost. She made an appoinment at Suited for Change  before an interview she had lined up at the AFL-CIO.

Her experience at Suited for Change was, as she puts it "special and transformative." She bonded with her volunteer wardrobe consultant as together, they put together outfits for her upcoming interview.

She wore the sea-foam green jacket and black slacks she received at Suited for Change at her interview a few days later. Not only was she hired, but she recently celebrated her one-year anniversary. "Having that one-on-one attention made all the difference in the world," Denise says.
