For over three decades, Glen Haven Area Volunteer Fire Department has been an essential lifeline for the Glen Haven area of unincorporated Larimer County, Colorado, comprising a population of approximately 1000 residents. Our dedicated volunteer firefighters provide invaluable services, not only in our immediate vicinity but also through mutual aid to and from neighboring fire departments.
Located in unincorporated Larimer County means that we receive no tax support for our department. GHAVFD has an annual operating budget on par with what a tax-supported department would pay one full time firefighter. Our annual budget is supported by the generosity of our residents and an annual pancake breakfast. Equipment and supplies that are not able to be supported through these two funding sources are acquired through grants and other fundraising activities.
GHAVFD is comprised of 33 members: one each Chief and Assistant Chief, two Captains, two Lieutenants, 18 full members, 1 summer intern, 2 trainees, and 6 reserve members.
The department has grown both in size, talent, and DFPC-certified and medically certified members in the past 6 years. We now have the most highly trained staff in the history of GHAVFD with 9 DFPC-certified Wildland Red Card holders and 16 DFPC-certified firefighters in interior/exterior firefighting or both.
The department was a lifeline to residents during the devastating 2013 flood and the equally devastating 2020 Cameron Peak Fire. During the Cameron Peak Fire, we received a lot of help, and we were also privileged to give help. We turned the financial help into a new apparatus and wildland truck, and gave back by repairing and donating one of our trucks to a mutual aid and training partner department to assist with their fleet.
The Glen Haven service area comprises approximately 36 square miles, from MM5 to MM12 on Larimer County Road 43, from 72W to 6N, which encompasses everything around County Road 43 to the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park and Forest Service lands.
We appreciate the support from the community and the patrons of our annual pancake breakfast.
We would appreciate your support through Colorado Gives.
