Support Kids In Progress, Inc. (S.K.I.P.) is a 501(c)(3) Veteran Family Organization assisting in eliminating Veteran Families suicide. Supporting a strong foundation in our U.S. Military and Veteran's children's lives by fostering a stable environment, so they can have a strong family unity, leading to a healthy foundation for their future, and generation to come. Our main campaign goals are to save lives, and provid children a strong support for their parent(s) transiting back into society, so they can have a healthy family unity.
S.K.I.P. was developed after hearing more Military men and women committing suicide than those who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan War, plus many were returning home with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sometimes
leading to suicide. This mental illness not only affect veterans, it has an impact on the entire family, especially their children.
What many people don't realize, children who have a parent that commits suicide can have the tendency later in years to attempt suicide or sadly become another statistic. Regardless of Military or Civilian families, the second leading cause of death among youth between 15 to 24 years old, is suicide. The third, leading cause of death among kids between the age of 10 to 14 years old is suicide. New study showed teenagers from Military families are at greater risk of thinking about,
planning, and trying suicide.
An estimated of 22 veterans commit suicide each day. These numbers do not represent suicide by law enforcement or aggravating civilians to kill them. According to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 1.7 million Americans served in Operation Freedom and Operation Iraq Freedom; 43% active duty service members have children (approximately 2 million). There are no statistics how many of our Military families lost a child from suicide. However, even one is too many.
Many of us are enjoying our life with our children. While our U.S. Military volunteered part of their life to serve and protect our freedom. Many are returning home with PTSD, sometimes leading to. Our veterans were not the only ones gave part of their life. Their children experience the pain and worries while their parent(s) were away. Then, feel the pain when their parent(s) return home a change person. Some are feeling the devastation of losing a parent by suicide. It's our time to protect our veterans and their children, freeing them from emotional pain, so they may have a life of freedom too.
S.K.I.P. is dedicated to giving back to our Veterans by assisting them in their healing process and keeping families together and safe. To best serve the entire family needs, SKIP has partnered with: National Emergency Communications Organization Network, In. (NECON); Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10218, California Mental Health Connection; LA Maid Pros; Dharma Calm; Veterans Partnering with Community; and Paul Rieker, Clinical Therapist.
Suicides are at its highest peak during the holidays. At this time, one hundred percent of our services are sponsored by SKIP's Director, partners, and generous contributions. We are limited on the number of families we can serve. Your contribution will allow us to service more families and save lives. Together, we will honor our Veterans for the sacrifice they did for us, by stopping Veterans family suicide. Giving the tools to a strong family unity, so their children may have a healthy foundation for their future and generations to come.
To show our appreciation, all donors will receive a personalize "Thank You", and will receive an invitation to an upcoming event . S.K.I.P. want to promote companies showing their support to our active U.S. Military, Veterans, and their families. Companies who are able to contribute $250 to $500 will be acknowledge as a sponsor on 1,000 of our Suicide Prevention Leaf Notes. Those who donate $501 or more, will be acknowledge on our leaf notes; and S.K.I.P.'s website for a year. Companies who sponsor (1) child, will receive their name on our leaf notes, S.K.I.P.'s website, recognitions on our programs materials, and more.
