Sustainable Community Gardens

2016 has been a year of growth and transformation.  We have refocused on education—teaching the community the value of local sustainably grown food is both our mission and our passion.

- We partner with Animal Assisted Happiness to bring large and small animals to the farm and enrich the lives of children experiencing special needs, health or family challenges.

- We created a new farming program called Farming With The Community to engage our neighbors to take an active role in the community. Join us on the second Sunday of every month.

- We spent over 2000 hours educating students and providing educational tours of the Farm.

However, with all of the work we are doing, we need your help.  Making the switch to emphasize education instead of production has meant a decrease in our current income.  Tuesday, November 29th is #GivingTuesday, and our non-profit’s goal is to raise $10,000.  Please donate to help us enlighten more people, both young and old, about the importance of local, sustainably grown food in our community.

OUR HISTORY:

Sustainable Community Gardens (SCG) is a community based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to the renewal of local, sustainable food systems throughout Silicon Valley. Our local sustainable farms, gardens and integrative educational programs empower youth and adults to grow food and inspire them to form communities dedicated to healthy living and environmental responsibility.

SCG was founded in 2006 with the establishment of Charles Street Gardens. Located on one acre of City of Sunnyvale land, Charles Street’s volunteer-built plots and gathering spaces are the only community run gardens in Silicon Valley and families from all walks of life grow fruits and vegetables in 92 large plots using organic methods.

SCG’s second project, Full Circle Farm (FCF), is an 11-acre, farm and educational garden in the heart of Silicon Valley. Nestled in a residential neighborhood on the back half of a local middle school, Full Circle Farm is a community-focused, educational project dedicated to providing fresh local food and environmental and nutrition education. FCF is actively creating a model system of locally growing healthy food for the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) and immediate community. It also serves as an inspiring green open space for the diverse urban community that showcases the importance of a healthy local food system, good nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices.
