Suzuki Education and Research Association operates the Japan-Seattle Suzuki Institute.

The Japan-Seattle Suzuki Institute supports Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s dream of achieving peace through music. Each summer, JSSI  invites string teachers, students, and families from across the globe to meet in Seattle. Together, we celebrate our love of music while developing new skills, elevating our artistry, and building community. We enact Dr. Suzuki’s vision of a better world through Talent Education.

The Japan-Seattle Suzuki Institute was founded by the late Mr. Yoshihiko Hirata, with the support and assistance of his wife, Mihoko Hirata.  Mrs. Hirata taught at the institute for many years and continues to be actively involved through her board service and teaching.

Your tax-deductible donation directly supports need-based student scholarships, making Suzuki music education accessible to more families. In 2023, scholarship requests totaled $6,000, yet we were only able to meet 50% of the need, awarding $3,010 to support 10 students. In 2024, thanks to increased support, we provided $6,010 in scholarships, allowing 18 students to attend. The demand continues to grow, and with your help, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive through music. Please consider making a gift today!
