About Liberty Oak Chorus

Dedicated to advancing women's a cappella singing in the barbershop style,  Liberty Oak Chorus, under the direction of Master Director, Katie Blackwood, is one of the hundreds of Sweet Adelines International choruses that make up the worldwide organization of women who sing four-part a cappella harmony.  

Within our worldwide singing organization, we are a cutting-edge, diverse, and inclusive chorus committed to empowering women singers through education, competition, and performances.   Liberty Oak Chorus membership consists of women who travel from 48 different towns in 13 different counties and three states each week to share a common bond - the love of singing.  

Liberty Oak Chorus provides access to leading experts in the areas of vocal production, choreography, arranging, directing and more. Together, our acclaimed educators have created  effective programs designed to help every woman achieve musical success.  There are unlimited opportunities and once-in-a-lifetime experiences as a member of our chorus.  

Liberty Oak Chorus performs regularly throughout the community, offering its talent for entertainment at civic events and charitable functions.

As members of the Sweet Adeline International, Greater New York, New Jersey Region 15, we compete yearly at our regional competition.  Our success at the Regional level has enabled Liberty Oak Chorus to also compete at the International level.  We are currently ranked among the top 10 choruses internationally.

Our Needs

We seek support for a wide range of activities — including rehearsal logistics & music programs. While Covid restrictions limited our function for two years, we continued our member engagement with virtual rehearsals where we provided online education opportunities for our members, and produced virtual chorus performances. Our last international competition took place in Phoenix where we placed in the top 10 at the 2022 Sweet Adelines International Competition. We are preparing to represent the Greater NY/NJ Region at the 2024 Sweet Adelines International Competition & Convention in Kansas City, MO.

In addition to financial support, we are looking for volunteers in the areas of graphic design, video production, riser movement/assembly and rehearsal space in the Monmouth County, NJ area.
