Sweet Evening Breeze

Sweet Evening Breeze provides affirming services for LGBTQ+ young people experiencing homelessness. Our focus goes beyond shelter to housing, healing, and hope. We empower residents and connect them to vital resources and envision a reality where no young person goes without shelter or support. 

Our Services 

• The only transitional housing program for LGBTQ young people in Kentucky 

• Community outreach at homeless encampments in Louisville 

• Food and toiletry supplies 

• Free therapy and case management services 

• Support groups for both trans people and families of trans people 

Why Our Work is Needed

LGBTQ individuals experience homelessness and housing instability at a higher rate than their cisgender, heterosexual peers. This is due to a variety of factors, including increased discrimination, lower average incomes, familial rejection, and employment instability. LGBTQ people experiencing homelessness are also more likely to experience violence while they are homeless. They are less likely to feel safe in traditional shelter environments. These risks are heightened for LGBTQ people who have other marginalized identities, including trans people, people of color, disabled people, and immigrants.

There are no other agencies in Louisville or in Kentucky that offer services specifically for LGBTQ people experiencing homelessness. The support Sweet Evening Breeze provides depends on financial support from our community, which includes you. Thank you for your donation.
