Established in 1990 as “Phoenix Body Positive,” the organization was created by and for people infected with, and affected by HIV/AIDS including families and partners. Founders of the organization realized the critical need to take action against the disease as well as to serve those impacted by its devastating effects. Through activism and advocacy, a group of dedicated volunteers created a grassroots organization that began providing clinical trial research and support services, which was later followed by HIV testing, nutrition programs, women and family services, behavioral health assistance and naturopathic medical care in the 1990s.

Today, Southwest Center provides a myriad of other critical services – medication management, psychological testing, professional counseling and facilitated support groups, as well as customized dietary plans and more – to everyone who walks through their doors. Over the past twenty-five years, Southwest Center has conducted more than 100 drug studies that have resulted in 31 of the 33 drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration and currently available to treat infected individuals. These drugs have dramatically slowed the death rate of HIV-positive patients and are now on pharmacy shelves across the globe. These medications have greatly improved the quality of life for those who are stricken with the disease.

Your support will help Southwest Center continue to  our prevention, research and wellness programs.
