Sycamore Farm’s mission is to help sexually exploited and trafficked women find freedom through the love of Jesus. We are a faith-based nonprofit ministry serving some of the most vulnerable and neglected women enslaved in this evil. We aim to help them find safety, get stable, and begin the healing process. Our team has been through intensive training and has many years of experience working with marginalized women through mentoring.
The opportunity to heal does not come often, and many victims of this crime do not trust people enough to make that first step, but when they do, we need to act quickly. The Freedom House, our emergency home, is the first step in the healing journey. We must be trauma-informed and holistic, treating each resident individually and addressing all their needs. We are also founded on Christian principles of being disciples through the guidance of God's Word and prayer.
We want the women who come to Sycamore Farm to see Jesus like Zacchaeus saw Jesus from the Sycamore tree. As you may know, the tax collector was not a job people thought highly of; in fact, he was seen the same as a prostitute in those days. How ironic to have the Lord put the name "Sycamore" on my heart for the name of this ministry. The tax collector was rejected and pushed aside because of his job. He was considered a sinner as low as a prostitute. Although he was very wealthy, he probably did not have many friends. God sees us all. We are His children, and our jobs, accomplishments, and mistakes are not what we hold our identity on. We want the women we serve to see their true worth through the Love of Jesus. The Lord seeks to save the lost, and He uses us to bring them close no matter how lost we get.
Matthew 18:12 (NIV)
“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?
We are working hard to help women who have been affected by sex trafficking and sexual exploitation get the help they need, feel real love and kindness as well, and see Jesus. We have a safe house for women who want to begin healing by meeting immediate needs and working on long-term goals. They receive mental health care and case management from holistic, trauma-responsive staff and volunteers. We include fun activities and spiritual nurturing to help them feel loved and seen.
Many women come straight from the streets, or we get calls from law enforcement, case workers at hospitals, and even jails and are desperate for help. Some do not know what they need but want to escape their situation. We nurture a healthy perspective by helping them understand the healing process, providing intentional mentorship of options, and helping them decide how to proceed to get the help they need.
We also do outreach at a local Jail, where we teach the "Ending The Game" curriculum and have Bible studies and devotionals. Worship is also a big part of our outreach time. We teach them how to overcome the lies they have learned about themselves and show them real unconditional love and healthy relationships. These women are hungry for real connection, and we are eager to offer hope through Jesus.
Sycamore Farm is a Louisville nonprofit ministry on a mission to help sexually exploited and trafficked women find freedom through the love of Jesus.
Our goal is to offer our services and mentorship to help women wanting to escape their trafficking situation find safety so they can truly begin to heal. We are a faith-based organization that applies our Christian values to our work, and although a resident may not want to be a part of the spiritual aspect of the healing process, we can alter our program to meet that need. We believe that every woman deserves the chance to be free from this trauma and move forward in a healthy way. We want to connect her to resources, people, and other programs that will nurture a healthy move forward and be an advocate for her. We do this through our Jail outreach, the Freedom House and through mentorship of other women who are still in the life.
We also believe it is necessary to equip the vulnerable with the reality that people are preying on them and provide tools and knowledge to protect themselves. We will never get in front of this issue if we don't understand how it works and who is doing it.
