The majority of people living with a disease, disorder or syndrome have faced some kind of diagnostic odyssey. A Diagnostic Odyssey is the time between the onset of symptoms and when the diagnosis is made. When a person experience symptoms they often want to know what is behind those symptoms. In SWAN USA's community children have long eluded diagnosis even after seeing many specialists.

A Syndrome is a group of signs (observed by a physician) and symptoms (reported to the physician) that occur together and create a picture which may suggest the presence of a particular medical condition, disease, or disorder.

A Diagnosis is the act of identifying the conditions from the signs and symptoms.

Undiagnosed is when a conditions has not been able to be diagnostic based on the signs and symptoms.
