The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
Each year we provide Christmas gifts to more than 1,000 children in the local areas. Most of these children never know the gifts come from Toys For Tots but know that their parents love them enough to make Christmas special. Those that do find out where the gifts came from know that everyone in our counties care about them.
We have many volunteers that are mainly school aged children that are learning that just a few hours of their time annually can make a tremendous difference to those less fortunate than themselves. We put our young volunteers into leadership rules and let them supervise other volunteers and manage the sorting and bagging activities. When our volunteers move on to paying jobs and college we encourage them to add these skills to their resumes, college and scholarship applications.
