Third Avenue Charitable Organization (TACO)

"Third Avenue Charitable Organization (TACO) is a community, drawn together to support the dignity, health and well-being of people among us, experiencing homelessness and poverty."

In operation every weekday of the year, we welcome all people in need for free meals, use of our mailing address, cell phone charging and services provided by our on-site social worker. Our chef cooks 250 meals a day and we have a reputation for the best food around. Weekly, we open our clothing pantry, provide legal services, tax preparation and rides to the DMV! Medical and dental services, provided by UCSD student-run medical clinic, are available to those who qualify. 

Many of those we serve are in impermanent homes or are living on the streets. So many others are elderly and live on fixed incomes in the senior-citizen, residential towers nearby and rely on our daily food programs. Some clients are physically disabled, living on relatively little income from sources like state disability and Federal SSI.

TACO serves everyone, regardless of race, gender, faith, age, or sexual orientation and our programs, are made possible by the support of grants, individual donations and our army of volunteers.
