Communities 4 Kids is the only coalition dedicated solely to the safety and well-being of children in our region.

Communities 4 Kids (Tahoe Truckee Child Abuse Prevention Council) is dedicated to making Tahoe-Truckee a caring community, where children are safe from abuse in all its forms. Communities 4 Kids is the primary planning and coordination group for child abuse prevention activities in the North Tahoe-Truckee community.  The council and community partners meets twice a month to ensure that accessible, effective resources and programs exist for children and families in our community.

Why Your Support Matters

By reaching families where the need is greatest, we accomplish much despite our limited resources. We provide bilingual resources, support for parents with children who have special needs, and resources for teens navigating difficult challenges. Through programs like the Period of PURPLE Crying, which educates parents and caregivers about the normal increase in infant crying and how to prevent harm, as well as, the Safe to Sleep® campaign, which promotes safe sleep practices to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related deaths, we are addressing critical issues that impact families every day.

Funded primarily by County Children’s Trust Funds in Placer and Nevada Counties, we partner with local organizations to ensure every child has access to the care and protection they deserve. However, with fewer funds available, we rely on the generosity of people like you to continue this life-saving work for our most vulnerable children.

What Your Donation Will Do

In recent years, we have been able to grant funds to partner organizations that make a real difference. We have helped provide oral care resources for children and youth, supported caregivers and providers at TTUSD's annual child development conference, made parenting curriculum available in libraries, and delivered sensory and bilingual books to 66 families with children with disabilities. We've also supported youth empowerment groups, reaching over 140 youth. 

With your support, we can continue to expand critical programs like the Period of PURPLE Crying and Safe to Sleep campaigns, along with other initiatives that strengthen and uplift our children and families.
