Tampa Bay Triple Threat Theatre (TBTTT) is a non-profit organization in residence at Mary Jo’s Performing Arts Academy (MJPAA). TBTTT is privileged to experience a unique artistic collaboration with the Academy. The Academy has been a leader in the Tampa Bay community for more than 35 years, specializing in performing arts education. Mary Jo Scanio founded TBTTT in 2002 to promote and encourage the advancement of education and cultural development of the performing arts by creating, furthering and producing opportunities for the youth of our community regardless of age or background. In an ongoing effort to inspire community, TBTTT regularly partners with local artists, bay area schools and community sponsored events. Research proves that participation and exposure to the arts contributes to the overall success of our youth and it is TBTTT’s goal to provide the vehicle for the arts to enhance our youth's development.
Following are some of the accomplishments that TBTTT achieved because of the generous community support in 2016:
TBTTT granted more than $60,000 in scholarships for training in all disciplines of the performing arts for our academic core curriculum and electives at MJPAA. In addition, students received scholarships for our summer intensive programs through Florida Dance Jam, Classical Ballet of Tampa, Summer Intensives, workshops and conferences.
TBTTT sponsored renowned guest artists for choreography and instruction, including Gretel Batista, Dee Caspary (appeared on So You Think You Can Dance as a choreographer), Marinda Davis, AJ Deneka, Rostilav Dzabraev, Sky Hoffman (former dancer for Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson), Alexsey Kuznetsov, and more. Students were also able to perform alongside guest artists in our two Mainstage Ballets.
TBTTT sponsored more than 400 Title 1 students for our Mainstage Productions. Our performances were seen by more than 4,100 guests, including 75 Assisted Living and Senior Groups and 375 field trip students from area schools. We were also able to purchase sound equipment and a new video projector and screen for our Black Box Theatre at MJPAA.
We served preschool students at satellite campuses in early childhood classes for the performing arts and after school programs. We also created a new Vocal Intensity Performance Group that entertains at local events and festivals with musical theatre, choral and solo performances throughout our community.
TBTTT sponsored numerous boys and girls to give them the opportunity to experience what performing arts has to offer.
TBTTT gets its funding in a variety of ways, including ongoing fundraising activities, like Give Day, the Lucky 13 Gala; partnerships with Amazon Smile, Kendra Scott and local restaurants; sponsorships, ticket sales and the commitment from hundreds of generous supporters, sponsors and donors with a passion for the arts and a belief in community. Ticket sales for our productions cannot cover all of the costs associated with delivering exceptional artistic, educational and community programs and maintaining our operating expenses so we rely on contributions from individuals, corporations and public agencies to sustain our programs today and to ensure our future.
