The Tanner Dance Program is an arts auxiliary at the University of Utah geared for children ages 3-18. A non-profit since 1937, Tanner Dance is the culmination of the life's work of founder and visionary, Virginia Tanner.

The multiple programs within Tanner Dance, including the well-known Children's Dance Theatre, are dedicated to the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service, while nurturing an appreciation of dance, music, literature, theater, and the visual arts.

A Dancing Partnership Like Never Before

Since 1937, Utah’s children have benefitted from an extraordinary vision put into motion by Virginia Tanner, the indomitable founder of Tanner Dance and Repertory Dance Theatre. Today, between our sister organizations, over 50,000 students and teachers are reached annually with dance education offerings. Because Arts in Education is an integral part of Virginia’s vision, RDT and Tanner Dance have teamed up for Love UT | Give UT 2015, to ensure arts and dance education in Utah continues.

Each year, RDT and Tanner Dance coordinate together, bringing dance and movement education to Utah schools on a 3-year rotation for each district. Along with RDT, Tanner’s performance group - Children’s Dance Theatre - presents free in-theatre matinees to schools and special needs groups.
