Vibrant and bright flowers give the site front vision from the Highway - an easy indicator you have passed or arrived at Tara Treatment Center.

Fruit trees are granted full-scale southern exposure, and offer buffers (from parking to small farm, and from farm to northern boundary of property).

Rain Garden are utilized for hardscape run-off (from buildings and parking) and water management.  Possibly used for water purification.

Aviary provides shelter for birds (birdhouses, flowers, seeds).  Selecting the right birdhouses will bring songbirds to the yard.

Apiary, or bee shelters, supplement pollination of vegetable grows and increase food/flower production.

Medicinal plants help curate home remedies, many of which produce fine fragrances, such as lavender and teas (aromas create memories).

Wildflower gardens offer buffer from the composting sites - which are necessary for a small scale grow operation, and a chance for patrons to collect and display flower arrangements.

Koi Ponds link the Courtyard to the Barn, which has the ability to become a large venue for gatherings and celebrations.

Living Willow hut is positioned in the rear of the property, for personal discovery and creativity.

At Tara, we believe in a holistic approach that addresses the mind, body and spirit.  Most clients have little hope when entering the facility and need to develop a faith in something other than alcohol and/or drugs. The 12-step programs are spiritual in nature and help many to re-establish their faith. For others it may be establishing a faith for the first time. By incorporating concepts of the 12-step programs, evidence based, experiential therapy, and psycho-educational components, individuals begin a journey of spiritual, mental, and emotional wellness.

Tara’s staff is dedicated and sensitive to the needs of those we serve. We maintain a family atmosphere, which contributes to our success. Tara offers a full continuum of services ranging from the most intensive level of care – Detoxification to the least intensive – Outpatient.

Tara Treatment Center, Inc. is accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Tara’s highest acclaim, however, comes not from agencies and organizations, but from the individuals and their families whose lives are significantly changed as a result of their experience at Tara.

Ann Daugherty knew firsthand how alcoholism and drug addiction could affect the lives of families and loved ones. Her personal pain as a result of her brother’s death at the age of thirty-six from alcoholism inspired her to help others.

Ms. Daugherty worked for several years as a master’s level psychiatric nurse and therapist, specializing in the field of addiction for most of her career. Through her prior employment, she became aware of a grant available for the treatment of women with addictions. She researched and wrote a grant proposal to open the original eight-bed Residential Program. A location for the facility was not an obstacle for her, as she had a history of opening her home to those in need. Ms. Daugherty’s efforts were rewarded in July 1985, with funding for Tara.

Throughout the years, Ms. Daugherty recognized the multiple needs of individuals served, which resulted in program and facility expansion. In July, 1996 Tara became a Managed Care Provider offering a full continuum of services for men and women.

Although diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer in 2003, she remained the Chief Executive Officer until July 2006. At that time she presented her eldest daughter, Theresa Matthews, to the Board of Directors as her successor, noting Ms. Matthews had worked closely with her since Tara’s inception. Ms. Daugherty’s fight ended August 25, 2008. Her mission and vision have been embraced by many and still continue today.
