Why Teen Reach?

The need to help at-risk youth has never been more apparent. Many teens we serve have encountered more trauma than most of us will experience in a lifetime and the impact on their lives is devastating:

  • Did you know that According to the National Foster Youth Institute, 60% of human trafficking victims in the U.S. were involved in the foster care system at one time?(1)
  • Or that 20% of young adults who are in foster care become homeless once they are emancipated at age 18? It is estimated that 50% of the current homeless population have spent time in foster care. (2)

The Teen Reach Adventure Camp (T.R.A.C.) is designed to serve youth who have come from "hard places," of neglect, abuse, or abandonment. Many of the youth we serve reside in the foster care system. We also partner with Angel Tree Camps to reach teens with incarcerated parents.

Our camp helps these youth hope by providing them a safe, fun, and supportive summer camp experience. The main purpose of our camp is to help teenagers develop self-worth, build trust, and know they are loved. T.R.A.C. is an extension of Royal Family Kids Camp (now known as For the Children). Our Bremerton Teen Reach Adventure Camp is a local chapter of Teen Reach, which is an international organization. Teen Reach has been serving at-risk teens for over 20 years.

At the Teen Reach Adventure Camp we offer separate boy's and girl's camps in the summer for teens ages 12-15. One unique aspect of our camp is our very low ratio of only two campers per counselor. This low ratio helps counselors develop a meaningful relationship with campers that can have a profound impact on their lives.

Because of generous supporters like you, we are able to offer this camp free of charge to at-risk youth in Kitsap County, as well as neighboring areas. At camp, teenagers get the opportunity to participate in fun activities such as archery, kayaking, swimming, rope-swinging, campfires, singing, crafts, and games. The campers also spend time on our Challenge Course, which is  designed to help the teens develop trust, learn teamwork skills, strengthen communication skills, provide leadership opportunities, and of course have fun with their peers and counselors.

Our camp staff are 100% VOLUNTEER, which means 100% YOUR DONATION GOES STRAIGHT TO SENDING CAMPERS TO CAMP!

All funds go towards camp rental, food costs, camp activities of kayaking, archery, high-ropes swing, and .

T.R.A.C.life Mentorship

Teenagers who attend camp become eligible to participate in our T.R.A.C.life mentoring program. Our mentoring program is available for teens ages 12-18. T.R.A.C.life is designed to help campers strengthen the relationships with their counselors from camp. We want to help teenagers develop trust and the life skills they need as they prepare for adulthood. Along with mentoring, we also have quarterly “Camper Reunions” where previous campers and camp staff come together for food, fun and fellowship.

At Teen Reach, our desire is for there to be a consistent presence of people involved in these young men and women's lives to provide them HOPE and encouragement for the future. All teens who attend camp are eligible to participate in the mentoring program; however, this mentorship is available provided we have sufficient mentors to match to the teens.
