We Grow More Than Plants!

Teens Grow Greens is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization that develops teenagers’ life-skills through hands-on experience. We offer paid employment that cultivates belonging, skill-building and connections to opportunities that grow leadership.

Our employment includes a nine-month paid internship that develops knowledge and skills in healthy living, leadership, entrepreneurship and professionalism and apprenticeships in the fields of education, agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Our new program, Kids Grow Greens hires Apprentices (Graduates of the internship) who have been trained in mentorship and agriculture over the course of three years.  The Apprentices will form relationships with elementary school students and over the course of multiple visits to our teaching greenhouse and their school garden, the elementary school students will grow food, character and community.

The need for this program is tied to academic achievement which is also correlated to health and nutrition. Over 21% of Milwaukeeans, many of whom are children of color, live in “Food deserts,” defined as a distance exceeding 1 mile from a grocery store. This limits access to nutritious food and leads to hunger, impacting the ability to concentrate in school and potential health problems.  TGG aims to overcome these challenges by providing  agricultural and culinary arts training to our Apprentices who will mentor elementary-aged mentees that live or go to school in the areas of most need in Milwaukee.
