Tonia’s mom always gave from her heart. She wanted everyone around her to have the same opportunities as she was able to experience. It was the little things from buying a kid a pair of shoes to paying for a school trip, she felt these things would make lasting impressions... So in an effort to keep that spirit alive after Terri passed away Tonia established The TERF Project aka Terri Elliott Rice Foundation to help youth in Montgomery County achieve their goals and dreams by supporting programs that focus on the following; but not limited to educational, recreational, music, academic, nutritional and personal development activities. Operated entirely by volunteers who are excellent role models because many are from backgrounds similar to those they serve. They provide a powerful example that belief in yourself, hard work, discipline and goal setting can achieve success at any level. The group has been reaching out and helping hundreds of children each year since its inception in 2010.

It is our goal and dream to give kids life changing experiences they can look back on and say,” wow someone does care.” Those come in both big and small packages.

The TERF Project vision is to provide support to students and families in our local community, to give students an emotional boost, to assist in their nutritional struggles, to give families baskets of hope of basic hygiene items for their household, to offer guitar lessons, to give the opportunity to have their own bicycle, and to help prepare youth for college and the work-force.

The TERF Project has recently acquired a permanent location in which they are expanding the opportunities and services which they are able to provide..

Below you will find a list of current opportunities available, with many more on the way.

Wow Pal – Adopt-a-Child Program

What makes this program different from the ordinary adopt-a-child program, though, is that sponsors aren’t just providing items on a monthly basis to their students. In addition to the $25 care packages, Wow Pal sponsors correspond with their students via letters, serving as a type of pen pal.

 Baskets of Hope

Sponsoring a basket is a simple concept you get a laundry basket or tote and the list of items provide. Many families find themselves stuck in a hard spot from time to time, they must decide between the basic or paying bills, we hope to alleviate that for some families.

Hungry 4 Change

Did you know that there are children and youth right here in our community that go hungry every day? We are excited to announce our Hungry 4 Change program has the opportunity to feed children this summer who may not otherwise have the opportunity to eat. We hope to feed hundreds of children at various locations throughout the summer. If you are interested in volunteering a small portion of your time to make a huge impact, please contact us for details.

Guitar Center

Guitar classes are taught in small groups with a maximum of five students organized by age. This makes for an ideal and intimate learning environment. The group class provides lots of laughs and helps the student to build social skills and make new friends outside of school. If you are unable to provide an instrument The TERF Project has instruments available for rental or purchase, rental scholarships are available. This program is being offered for individuals, with no previous instruction or experience, to learn the basic skills of guitar in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

Local Sports Scholarships

We are very pleased to announce The TERF Project now has a limited number of local sports scholarships available. We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to some kids who otherwise may not have the ability.

Good Life Bike Shop

We are happy to announce we have partnered with Montgomery County Jailer Eric Jones and the Montgomery County Regional Jail to establish an inmate work program. They will house their own workshop on their premise and repair the bikes before returning them to us in good working order for distribution. We will be distributing used kids bikes, adult road bikes, hybrids, and mountain bikes. Our bikes are carefully refurbished. We accept bike donations. All the used bikes in our shop will come to us as donations.

As Director and Founder of The TERF Project, INC., which bears the name of my late mother, I assure you that every donation is received with heartfelt gratitude and you truly do "get what you what, when you give others what they need".
