Texas Agriforestry Small Farmers and Ranchers

A nonprofit organization

Texas Agriforestry Small Farmers and Ranchers (TASFR) is a IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to "making farmers and ranchers successful." Based in Nacogdoches, Texas, the organization was founded in 2017 in recognition of the need for information on available assistance to be disseminated to socially-disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. The organization promotes a five-point program of advocacy, mentorship, outreach, opportunities, and partners.

In 2017 local minority farmers and ranchers in Nacogdoches County saw the need to unite small and underserved farmers and rural residents to communicate their needs, chart their own destinies, and begin to engage themselves in the development of self-sustainability. Texas Agriforestry Small Farmers and Ranchers (TASFR) was formed as a community-based nonprofit organization committed to enhancing rural economies, conserving and managing natural resources, preventing the further decline of family farms, heir's property and improving the quality of life for minorities in rural communities.
Today, TASFR outreach efforts include sponsoring an Annual Agriculture/Forestry Summit to provide socially disadvantage farmers and ranchers with information regarding their USDA programs, technical assistance, research & development, and assistance with the creation of sustainable agricultural markets, heirs property. Moreover, the organization advocates for small farmers and ranchers at local, state, and national levels. TASFR is currently partnering with Prairie View A&M University (1890 Land Grant University), Stephen F. Austin State University (1862 Land Grant University), Brigham Young University (BYU) and Duke University for statistical analysis, outreach strategies, and assistance to increase participation in its programs.
Providing myriad technical assistance and educational opportunities, TASFR supports its clients with a wide range of activities, including visits to individual ranches and farms, surplus pine tree seeding planting assistance, agency coordination for topography map and soil analysis, youth and community gardening programs, information regarding career and scholarship programs to attend 1890 Land Grant Colleges/Universities for young people , and workshops on farm management, estate & financial planning, water quality, and other subjects.
