The Art of Yoga Project works with at-risk, exploited and incarcerated teen girls involved the California juvenile justice systems.

Each year we serve over 750 girls in juvenile detention centers, rehabilitation facilities and alternative / gang-impacted high schools in San Mateo, Santa Clara and San Francisco Counties.

An overwhelming number of incarcerated girls are victims themselves, caught in cycles of violence and abuse. Our goal is to break the cycle of victimization by empowering each girl to find and trust her own inner voice and strength.

We offer a powerful therapeutic combination of yoga, mindfulness and creative arts programs delivered by well-trained, trauma-informed staff.  Our programs are age-appropriate, gender-specific, culturally sensitive and guided by the latest learnings in trauma-informed treatment.

Your suport will ensure that these girls receive the empowering tools they need to alter their own path - creating better futures for themselves, their families and their communities.

I usually see things black and white. But after I do yoga I feel like a new person and I look at things in new ways. I see there is more than just yes or no, more than one choice, more than one path. I like this idea because so far the path I’ve chosen hasn’t been great. I’m ready for a new one.”   — AYP Participant

“When I practice yoga I feel whole, I feel nothing is beyond my reach. I feel beautiful, strong and perfect, and fortunate that I am me.”— AYP Participant
