This Give Day Tampa Bay, we are asking for your support for The Centre for Girls in Tampa (a program of The Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women) The Centre for Girls is launching an innovative program for young entrepreneurs called Biz Girlz. These girls will be the dreamers, the innovators, the leaders and the entrepreneurs of the 21st Century.
Girls between the ages of 5 and 14 are creating their own imaginative product lines. The program is latest innovation of The Centre for Girls where STEM meets STEAM, an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. The results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration and work through the creative process. Students in STEM programs may have more experiential learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math. As most successful entrepreneurs know, a thriving economy requires so much more than an understanding of these areas – it requires application, creation and ingenuity. Our thriving STEAM program incorporates the benefits of STEM and through the arts it allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with arts practices, elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal. STEAM removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation.
The Centre for Girls is more than a place; it is an innovation center that uses the Arts as a catalyst for growth, social-emotional connections and the foundation for innovators of tomorrow… today!
Biz Girlz is designed to be experiential, to encourage girls to follow their passion, ignite their imaginations and foster creativity. The goal is to provide real life experience in business while promoting social emotional learning to build self-confidence and leadership skills.
An innovative curriculum with input and guidance from the Tampa Bay Women’s Business Centre will teach young entrepreneurs business skills, branding, advertising and logo creation as well as marketing, cost and profit. At the end of the program, students will host a pop up store to experience how to engage with customers. As a bonus, they will get to keep the profits from their sales.
