The Childrens Advocacy Center of Green River District

Our organization began as a grass roots movement by a group of concerned citizens in Hendeson County to address the issue of increasing numbers of child abuse victims in this area.  The Henderson County Child/Victim Task Force was born in April 1993.  A key element in addressing the needs of the child and non-offending family members was the addition of the Multidisciplinary Team in January 1994.  Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) was next on the agenda, and our first CASA volunteer was sworn in and appointed to a case by the District Court Judge in March 1995. That CASA volunteer is still with us today. As our staff and focus grew our company name changed as well to The Children's Advocacy Center of Green River District as it remains today. The center was expanding operations by adding a child therapist, a forensic interviewer, a medical director and high-tech yet child friendly medical and interview rooms. An internship program was established to work with colleges and universities throughout Kentucky and Indiana for students enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology. Today we have a 5 member staff, 9 board members representing multiple counties of the district, 2 office volunteers, 15 CASA volunteers, and one volunteer physician. On a daily basis we work with DCBS (Child Protection Services) and Law Enforcement in all seven counties of the Green River District and ultimately provide direct services to approximately 300 children every year (many of these children are seen multiple times throughout the year, sometimes on a weekly or monthly schedule), offer crisis intervention and referrals,  case management and court advocacy as well as a variety of child abuse prevention and awareness trainings to the communities throughout the Green River District. Our offices are open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.  Voice mail is available for calls received after hours and our Executive Director is available by cell phone should members of Law Enforcement and/or DCBS need our services on an emergency basis after 5pm or on the weekends.
