Delta House Inc., dba Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization through which contributions support the operations and programs of the museum, which is an historic landmark, located in the historic Laney Walker District, in Augusta, Georgia. The mission of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History is to promote the legacy of Miss Laney through art, history and the preservation of her home. Miss Laney, a native of Georgia, was a pioneer and one of the most influential educators in America. The museum's Children's Academy continues the legacy by educating and exposing children and adults locally and beyond to the visual and performing arts, history, literature, leadership and improved educational skills. The museum also encourages and supports new artist in their field of endeavors.
The Children's Academy provides creative learning spaces for children from low to moderate income homes throughout the year. The children gain experiences during these enrichment activities that they may not otherwise be able to afford. These programs are important to all students, not just African American students. Learning about black history fosters cultural appreciation for all children. They will be exposed to creative activities led by professional artists, dancers, performers and other experts in their chosen field. The Children's Academy provides programs in the following areas:
Summer and Fall Enrichment Camps
Visual & Performing Arts Programs
Reading & Storytelling
Workshops on Table Etiquette
Black History Essay Contest
Breakfast with Santa
The Lucy Craft Laney Museum has also planned for major infrastructure improvements in all areas (Museum, Children's Academy, Conference Center, and Administrative Office).
