The Green Urban Lunchbox

Our vision is to create and build a sustainable community around food. As an organization, we believe that healthy food is a human right and work to harness the power of our community to make it available to all.

 

We are already preparing to plant Back-Farms gardens for local seniors! This summer we plan to grow and harvest 14,960 pounds of fresh, organic vegetables to share with volunteers and senior citizens in our community. With the addition of our Senior Center Farmers Market program, we hope to serve over 6,400 seniors this summer!

 

This program seeks to address several pressing issues. Through planting Back-Farms gardens in senior citizens' yards, we provide the homeowners with garden fresh produce, help caring for their yard space, and connection to the community they are a part of. By increasing access to healthy produce and bringing community involvement right to their homes, we support the health and happiness of the seniors we serve. Additionally, Back-Farms provides long term educational volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to learn and grow their own food while giving back to the community.

 

Food grown in Back-Farms gardens serves thousands of local seniors via our Senior Center Farmers Markets. These markets allow us to connect with seniors in a convenient location, provide fresh produce to support their health, and create a community around local food!
