The Grow Initiative Inc

The GROW Initiative started in 2008, starting with the dreams of two returned Peace Corps Volunteers wanting to continue international development work helping those in need while providing an opportunity for others to share in the types of experiences that had changed their outlook on life.

GROW has operated in 16 countries throughout Latin America and Asia during which time projects came to focus on sustainable agriculture initiatives.  When presented with the opportunity to partner with a new demonstration and learning farm in coastal Ecuador in 2012, GROW took root in one location, focusing efforts at Finca Mono Verde (FMV) in Tabuga Ecuador, on the coast just south of the equator.

Building a demonstration, teaching and reasearch center for sustainable agriculture and building techniques works to further all of the founding project areas originally set out by GROW and its founders: poverty alleviation, education, environmental conservation and community health.

We will be focusing on permaculture techniques, natural farming and appropriate technologies as we transform a barren and trampled property into a productive and healthy oasis. We want to create a space where students, professionals and the local community can experiment with new ideas, learn from progress at the farm and share knowledge and skills with our neighbors and the global development community.

Through our travels, we have experienced many different cultures and methodologies for sustainable development. We are excited to work with FMV to develop a space that combines global traditions, cooperative learning and scientific method in order to design replicable and working models for agriculture, agroforestry and more.
