The Harp Foundation

The Harp Foundation evolved from Hospice of the Valley's Integrative Therapies Program. In order to expand the harp program into the West Valley and surrounding areas, the Harp Consortium was originally incorporated in the year 2000 with partner organizations that included Sun Health, Hospice of the Valley, Interfaith Services (now Benevilla), and the Sun Cities Ministerial Association.

The Harp Foundation and their harpists served over 30,000 people in 2012 in hospitals including Dignity Health’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Mercy
Gilbert Medical Center and Banner Health Del E. Webb Hospital and Medical Center , and we are commencing a therapeutic harp program at Banner Health Cardon Children’s Medical Center in 2013.

Our harpists provide live therapeutic harp music for an average of 10,000 patients, family members and hospital staff per hospital.

We reduce anxiety and stress for babies in critical care resulting in up to two weeks early release, a savings on average of thousands of dollars for the hospital per baby, for 50 babies are multiples of this.

We bring calm and relaxation to Behavioral Health Departments for improved mental care for adults and provide compassionate care for families for end of life with peaceful release and transition.

Live harp music instills relaxation in patients affecting decreased pain and easier healing, resulting in early release dates and saving average daily hospital rates of  $2000 per baby in the NICU and in one year, as much as $1.4 million for 50 babies. It can save around $1200 per adult patient per day and up to $770,000 annually for early releases.

Since 2000 we have played about 85,000 hours of therapeutic harp music in hospitals, hospices and special needs classrooms and have attended individuals in their homes or hospital rooms from Sun City Grand to Gilbert, all over greater metropolitan Phoenix.
