Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world of one child, in one community, at a time. Our Club was established in 1949. Each dollar we raise from our Service projects are 100% reinvested back in to our community. Our focus concentrates on the needs of the youth in our community, however, sometimes those youth needs are delivered to us by other local partners which include Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the NRV, the Agency on Aging, and Social Services. Here is a brief description of some of our highlights from 2021:

  1. We supplied six schools in Christiansburg with two $500 Walmart gift cards. The principals use those cards to purchase necessities for their students and to purchase school supplies. As a gift card is used up, we provide new gift card to the principals. Approximate annual spend $6,000
  2. We provide three $1,000 scholarships to CHS students who want to pursue additional studies beyond high school graduation. We select those with financial needs that have successfully displayed a passion for community service. We have plans for 2023 to increase our spend on this project to $4500.
  3. We provide a Holiday Party in December for approximately 50 children from the Christiansburg schools. The names and the needs (clothing and toys) are provided to us from the Guidance Counselors. Our Club purchases the toys for the children, and our members purchase the clothing requests. This event culminates with a pizza party for the kids and their parents as well each child receiving their wrapped gifts. Approximate expense to the Club $7,500. For every $250 donated during Give Local we will purchase toys and clothing for one additional child.
  4. Backpack program for Head Start kids -  In order to keep those children fed when while they are away from school, our Club provides backpacks filled with food, for the children to take home each Friday. The Club packs these bags every week of their school year. Approximate annual spend $6,000

Our Club also owns "Kiwanis Park" located behind Southern States in Christiansburg. With assistance from the Master Gardeners, we are in the process of developing a butterfly garden in a section of the park.

With over sixty members, we are proud to be one of the largest Civic organizations in Montgomery County. If our projects appeal to you, please consider supporting our cause and/or joining our organization. We meet every Thursday night at 6:30 at the Holiday Inn in Uptown Christiansburg.
