1 in 7 adults in the Pioneer Valley do not have a high school education.  So they turn to us: The Literacy Project.  We operate adult learning centers in Amherst, Northampton, Greenfield, Orange and Ware.

Most of our students know how to read - but they can't read well enough to fill out a job application, pass the GED or just sit in the sun and enjoy a novel.

When they are ready to do the hard work of coming back to school while juggling the responsibilities of work and family, we're here to help.

Students at The Literacy Project work at their own pace, towards their own goals, in small, comfortable classes.  Staff instructors lead lively class discussions and interactive projects while volunteer tutors provide the one-on-one support that many students need.

Ranging in age from 16-76, students at The Literacy Project create a unique community of learners.  Some are young adults who have just dropped out of school; others are recently retired and finally have time to devote to their education.  They support one another as they pursue their individual goals, whether it's learning to read, passing the GED,  preparing for college, or becoming more active in the community.  It's an exciting, dynamic community of people who are committed to changing their lives by pursuing their education.

Join our community of supporters: people who believe that it's never too late to learn and that everyone should have access to education.
