Are you ready to give back more? Nonprofit organizations have unique management, funding, human resources, and finance issues that require specialized training. Whether you're a veteran nonprofit professional, grantmaker, staff member, trustee, or someone interested in making a career change to the nonprofit sector, our interactive, solutions-based certificate programs willl inspire excellence in you as you learn from seasoned instructors and other course participants.
The Nonprofit Academy for Excellence at the "U" was developed in collaboration with the Utah Nonprofits Association, the Utah Society of Fundraisers and an Advisory Committee of distinguished representatives from the nonprofit sector, ranging from corporate giving to board members to academicians who are recognized as subject matter experts in their field. The program was initiated in 2007 to fill a gap in professional development opportunities for those in the nonprofit sector. Research indicated that few nonprofit managers and staff had any type of formal nonprofit training. Grant making organizations look very favorably on organizations that engage in management training. This demonstrates to them an effort to improve organizational capacity.
The Nonprofit Academy relies heavily on grants from donors to help offset the costs of attending the program. Many nonprofits simply do not have funds to cover professional development for their staff. If you'd like to support a scholarship for a student, contact the Professional Education office at 801.585.1780.
Applications are accepted twice per year to the Academy, in the fall and spring.
