The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation

A nonprofit organization

Founded in 1998, The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) improves community life through its work in education, public health, civic engagement, the arts, philanthropy, and the environment. Key to its success is fostering collaboration among all sectors of the community. With our partners we are answering: “What can we achieve together that we cannot alone?”

NNJCF is working with the City of Garfield, NJ to build a hydroponic container farm. This container farm will provide fresh produce year round to low income residents through the food pantry, public housing, and senior citizen services.

Garfield has been hard hit by the COVID-19 epidemic in terms of both health and economic impact. Many residents have turned to food panties to feed their families during these difficult times. Food pantries are often unable to provide fresh produce, resulting in a limited diet for those most in need.

Establishing a year-round hydroponic farm in Garfield will:

  1. expand access to fresh produce for those most in need
  2. improve nutrition and health of residents
  3. provide a hands on learning experience for the community

Please support us in kickstarting this initiative!
