Progressive First Baptist Church

Progressive First Baptist was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1958. The late Rev. Dr. B.A. Dawkins was called by God to establish a ministry that was founded on solid biblical principles, community outreach and spiritual growth.

Starting with a membership roll of just about 40, the congregation was blessed to worship in its first building at 2809 Rayner Avenue. Later Progressive merged with the members of Gospel Temple at 723 Poplar Grove Street to form a larger congregation. There, the child daycare nursery and Bar-B-Q ministry was born. Progressive was able to purchase the church's current location, 3220 Garrison Boulevard. Prior to the purchase, the building served as a synagogue. Constant faith, prayer and giving allowed complete renovation of the building.

Through Rev. Dawkins' leadership, onslaughts of ministries were developed. The church continued the daycare nursery and Bar-B-Q but added a Bar-B-Q pit, adult daycare, and many more. In 2003, God called Rev. Dawkins home. After his death, the church and official board elected in the anointed Rev. Keith L. Green, who was then minister of music and associate minister.

Since Rev. Keith Green's pastoral ministry, Progressive members and the community have experienced a shift. More than 200 people, inside and outside the city of Baltimore have joined the body of Christ. Pastor Green has a passion for unsaved souls, discipleship and evangelism, much like his predecessor. In the few years under his pastorate Christian education programs, Outreach, Evangelism, Senior and Men's ministries have been developed, among many others.

Progressive First Baptist Church’s official roll now stands at more than 300 members and grows weekly. The church is on the move and about representing its name, a "progressive" people determined to do the will of God.
