The Refuge Homeless Shelter of Lapeer County

Let me tell you about Ernest. Before Ernest came to The Refuge he was living by the railroad tracks eating out of a dumpster that he shared with a raccoon. Ernest says, "if it hadn't been for The Refuge I probably wouldn't be alive".

Ernest is a recovering alcoholic. With help through the Veterans program he now has permanent housing, and together with the friends he made at The Refuge he is making progress. 

He is just one of the over 500 who have come through the doors of The Refuge looking for a safe place to stay and hope for a fresh start.
