For just over 40 years, Shepherd’s Table has been a sanctuary where those in need can find a hot, nutritious meal every day. Our mission extends beyond just providing food—we offer comprehensive resources and services that uplift individuals and inspire hope as they journey toward accomplishing their goals. Our fresh, delicious meals are curated by professional chefs and designed to maximize nutrition. But it doesn’t end with food– through case management and each program we offer, a fresh meal can be the entry point to a larger journey of healing and empowerment. 

The Resource Center improves the daily lives of our clients and guests by offering information and referrals to support services, personal mail and telephone use, token assistance to reach shelter and support services, toiletries and blankets, prescription assistance, crisis intervention, and bilingual services.

The Clothing Closet provides clean, brand new and gently-used and seasonally appropriate clothing to our guests. At each visit, clients can select clothing, shoes, handbags and other accessories. 

The Eye Clinic addresses the need for vision testing, glaucoma screening, and prescription eyeglass service for patients without vision insurance. Opened in 1999, all services provided in the Eye Clinic are free for our guests.

Shepherd’s Table does more than just provide daily meals at Progress Place. Beyond the Table, seeks to address food insecurity by providing nutritious, ready-to-eat meals to vulnerable populations through trusted community partners. Beyond the Table's primary goal is to ensure that no individual, especially children and underserved community members, goes without a nutritious meal. By working with schools, shelters, and nonprofits, we aim to reach a wider audience and provide consistent meal support where it is most needed.

Through the launch of the Culinary Skills Training Program, Shepherd’s Table will provide community members facing multiple barriers, such as low wages, a lack of real-life skills, or a lack of opportunities, with a path to pursue a career in the food service industry. They will train for a new career while helping hungry Marylanders in need!

The increase in unhoused individuals has led to a significant rise in the demand for our services in recent times. In the first quarter of this year alone, we served 22% more meals than last year. With the number of unhoused individuals across the Washington region increasing by over 12% since 2023 and one in eight people facing hunger in Maryland, your support is more crucial than ever.
