The Mustard Seed Project of Key Peninsula

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Our vision is an elder-friendly Key Peninsula, where our neighbors may safely age in place with dignity and respect. Our mission is to ensure choices for healthy aging on the Key Peninsula by connecting elders with innovative programs and resources. We help seniors stay in their own homes in our community through the end of their lives if they wish. The work of the Mustard Seed focuses on information and referral, transportation, health and wellness, senior housing options, and education.

Description

Created from needs uncovered by a community survey in 2006, The Mustard Seed Project developed its core programs to address those needs. Our programs are:
Transportation - scheduled door-to-door transportation by volunteer drivers for things like senior meals, medical care, and other essential destinations.
Community Volunteers - volunteers provide services such as friendly visits, light housekeeping and yard care.
Information and Referral - trained volunteers provide information about important services for seniors such as veterans' benefits, Medicare and Social Security. An updated, free resource guide is available in print and online.
Education - forums on topics of interest to our elders such as living wills.

Activities - Our building, the Crandall Center, offers many social activities and ways of connecting with others including games (cribbage and bingo), art and guitar classes, open mic night and much more.
Classes - programs to engage creativity and build community, including evidence-based falls-prevention Stay Active & Independent for Life (SAIL) program, yoga, and art classes.

We have just completed construction of assisted living and memory care homes, now known as Mustard Seed Village, adjacent to our office. We expect to open in May or June 2023 after completion of our final state inspection and are looking forward to our first elder residents, most of whom live on the Key Peninsula and who will be able to remain in their community of choice--a choice unavailable until now for seniors needing supportive care.

This coming year will see much growth in programs, community partnerships and mission service. Please give to the Mustard Seed Project and help make the Key Peninsula one of the best places to grow old!
