The Consortium MMT

The Consortium MMT (TCMMT) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  We offer all of our core programming at no cost to the talents. The City of Memphis is 64% African-American, many of which lack the resources and access to true opportunities to advance careers in music. The TCCMT’s mission is to build a viable music industry in the City of Memphis for the future. This is mission is served by two distinct functions: Talent Development & Talent Advocacy. 

Talent Development: We provide a structured learning environment, enriching and equipping our talents with proven tools to build the next generation of commercially successful music professionals and entrepreneurs. Our program covers developmental aspects of songwriting, record producing, and recording artists in a structured format. 

We have received input from many legends and superstars of the music industry in the form of exclusive informational videos to provide insightful instruction in these creative areas. A few of our contributors include Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Jam, Earth, Wind & Fire, Eric Benét, Valerie Simpson, Rickey Minor, Maurice White and many others. 

Through the Talent Development Complex, we provide Resources, Education, Development and Opportunities to assist talents in launching careers in music. There is rehearsal space and industry standard recording equipment available for talents to hone their skills. 

Talent Advocacy: Music is one of the most underutilized natural resources of the City of Memphis. We seek to establish music as a major economic driver for the Mid-South region. Talent Advocacy is a more strategic and relational component of our missional pursuit. While it is vitally important for the City of Memphis to have a highly skilled and trained pool of talent to transition a thriving music scene to a thriving music industry, it is equally important to have a community of support around that talent. Through our efforts, we are building an ecosystem for music and entertainment. 

At the core of our advocacy efforts is raising the awareness of the fact that the independent music creator is a small business. With over 90% of our served population being Black and/or women, we are in the minority small business development space. So, we not only have a vested interest in preserving and developing professionals in the creative and performing arts,  TCMMT is focused on the growth and development small businesses.
