The Grassroot Project

Founded in 2009 by Tyler Spencer, the mission of Athletes United for Social Justice (AUSJ) is to use sports and athlete role models as a platform to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to live healthy lives.  We achieve our mission by building the capacity of athlete role models to mentor youth through programs that employ innovative and effective approaches to youth development.

AUSJ’s first and most prominent program is The Grassroot Project (TGP), a DC-based sexual health education program. TGP trains athletes to implement 8-session, sports-based HIV prevention interventions for at-risk youth in DC schools.
