Making a Difference

That short phrase is overflowing with opportunity and hope. 

It connotes a chance to change a life. Improve a life. 

Open a door where all seem closed. 

Sometimes that difference made is a small thing.  

Sometimes that small thing is the spark that starts a fire that lights the way to something huge.

The Arts Make a Difference

Art enriches lives. It doesn’t matter the form. It may be a painting, or a sculpture purchased that completes the look of your home. It might be a musical or theatrical performance that evokes warm memories and causes your spirits to soar. It might be the pure joy of a class or workshop where an artistic skill is discovered or honed.

That arts exposure might just as easily change a life. Consider art or music therapy for veterans and Alzheimer’s patients – which have the power to heal or rekindle positive memories. Or perhaps it’s art classes for students with little or no other opportunity to express themselves. There are countless other ways to experience the power of the arts.

The Hub Makes a Difference

The Hub on Canal has been making a difference since the day we opened in 2012. There was a void to be filled. The arts didn’t reach the majority of our community. With a strong vision and the hard work of our volunteers, artists, and staff, the Hub stepped into that breach. We’ve created a community-gathering place for music and the performing arts. We’re a working space for artists, allowing them to collaborate and grow. We teach. We offer a wide range of Outreach activities – taking the arts to those who are not well served, and for whom this access is most important. We’re a richer community because of it. Everyone in the Hub family is rightly proud of all we have accomplished.

You Can Make a Difference

The Hub would not have accomplished so much without your help. It would be nice if we could say that our job is done. Unfortunately, it is not. We’ve reached many, but honestly, we’ve just scratched the surface. Whether it’s through small-group art instruction or big events like Chalk It Up! or Razzle Dazzle, there are many more children for us to reach. There are more veterans or Alzheimer’s patients who can benefit from art or music therapy. There’s so much more to do.

Complacency is not in our DNA. We see the need and we feel compelled to try and fill it. As always, resources are the limiting factor. Please join with us and help us do more. You CAN make a difference. You might change a life.
