The Sunflower Initiative

The Sunflower Initiative is the nation’s only non-profit 501c(3) independent organization dedicated to providing scholarships for students who choose to attend a woman’s college. Our mission is to award scholarships to bright and ambitious women who believe that women’s colleges offer academic excellence, creativity, and leadership in a uniquely nourishing environment. 

Women’s colleges are successful at educating women because it is their sole mission to do so. Studies have consistently shown that women who graduate from women’s colleges are more likely to:

• report greater satisfaction with their college experience
• have a significant leadership role in college
• score higher on standardized tests
• graduate with a STEM degree 
• obtain graduate degrees
• choose more traditionally male career paths
• engage in civic activities after college
