It is an acknowledgement that Citizen Diplomacy and a mutual understanding among nations is vital to peace, tolerance, prosperity, and stability in the world.

Citizen Diplomacy has never been more important. THIS for Diplomats is committed to welcoming diplomats and changing the world, one relationship at a time.

Founded in 1961 at the request of the U.S. Chief of Protocol, THIS for Diplomats (THIS) is a dynamic, non-profit, non-governmental organization with no political or religious affiliations. THIS welcomes and assists diplomats and their families during their stay in Washington, D.C. THIS for Diplomats promotes international understanding through educational and cultural exchanges, and exposes them directly to the American values of democracy and friendship.

For more than 50 years, THIS for Diplomats has assisted thousands of diplomatic families from the 180 foreign missions in our nation's capital. We welcome diplomats at the front door of our nation. They arrive as ambassadors from their countries. Through the programs, services, and friendships of THIS for Diplomats, they leave as ambassadors for the U.S. in the world.
