An Empty Bed

We have an empty bed at Saint Benedict’s.  I sit here this morning knowing we will miss the veteran that just moved out.  Each man or woman that comes to our houses brings something with them.  They all add to our “family”.  They all bring different talents and gifts to the house. They all come looking for something to help them in their own lives –
and most when they come to find something from us – they bring something for us. They will bring a sense of humor – they bring life’s experiences to share with their house mates – they bring a skill of listening to their fellow veterans – they bring something we all benefit from.

One of many things that has amazed me since we founded Three Hots and A Cot is the spirit of the veterans who come to us.  They all come needing something in their lives – yet nearly every one of them spends a lot of their time with us wanting to know what they can do for us and for others.  Our veterans are not looking so much for what they need – but for what they can do for others

Today we will move another homeless veteran into Saint Benedict’s – and we will work with this individual to help them reach their full potential.  We will be blessed by what this person will bring to us during their stay. Yeah – we have an empty bed at Saint Benedict’s – but not for long.  The problem it seems is not the empty bed – the problem is that there is such a demand for the bed.
