A robust, trusted network of nonprofit organizations, businesses, government agencies, elected officials and civic leaders

Thrive helps to build the capacity of nonprofits, large and small, to strengthen San Mateo County’s critical community organizations and connections. In an increasingly technology-driven world, Thrive is real people, meeting real challenges, with real collaboration -- on the ground, face-to-face, 200 strong and counting.

"I can't get over the amount of information that comes out of Thrive - events, workshops, conferences, the latest issues in the community. In many ways, Thrive is like Google for me!" – Deborah Pinsky, CEO, Peninsula Jewish Community Center

Powered by Community

We believe that every individual and every sector of society has a role to play in improving our community. Founded in 2000 by leaders from the nonprofit sector, Thrive’s unique approach allows us to work across the social, public and private sectors, and facilitate and magnify outcomes through connections, collective voice, and person-to-person collaboration.  Only Thrive includes nonprofits from every sector – from large foundations to small organizations, from human services to the arts and education, hospitals, banks and county departments. Together we form a vital ecosystem for San Mateo County that creates synergy for:

• Nonprofits  • Government  • Business  • Employees  •  Residents

"Thrive is a vital part of San Mateo County ... the driving force that makes us grateful for the nonprofit sector in our community. San Mateo County has often been in the forefront to start programs that are then adopted statewide.  Thrive reaches out to the business, government, religious sectors as well as nonprofit entities. It deserves our support.” – Bill Somerville, President and Founder, Philanthropic Ventures Foundation

Thrive effectively and efficiently operates with a staff of two.  The Executive Director brings over 30 years of experience in coalition building and community outreach.  Our Operations Coordinator is a social advocate at heart who returned to nonprofit service after a stint in a tech start-up.

“As a former CEO of a nonprofit organization and now a board member, I see how Thrive is able to support and strengthen the sector here in San Mateo County. Thrive provides a venue for nonprofit leaders to come together to network, build relationships with funders, county leaders and other nonprofit leaders. The quarterly meetings provide a valuable resource for Thrive members. No other organization represents the entire nonprofit sector.” - Michael Garb, First Five Commissioner
