Thurston Community Media  –  A Media MakerSpace

TCMedia is expanding its services and has evolved from a nonprofit TV studio to a media makerspace. As local media continues to decline, independent content creators in our community fill an essential gap in our information ecosystem. But, they sometimes need access to digital media tools and distribution platforms that are often not available or affordable. We make it possible for individuals and organizations to create locally focused content that can inform viewers about current affairs and regional issues and showcase local artists, writers, and performances. We welcome all people and organizations to use the facilities and equipment in our media makerspace to create and share their work without editorial interference.

Young people are native to our digital world. They are bombarded by media messages daily, often deceptive or without context. We are very proud of our Young Producers Network and its impact on youth as content creators. Young Producers Network teaches STEM/STEAM concepts and digital media literacy and encourages creative thinking in a safe, supportive environment. By becoming media creators, young people better understand somebody can manipulate media and, therefore, become more discerning consumers of the messages they receive. The TCMedia facilities with cameras, studio space, and enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff make learning media production an adventure.
