Trans Legal Aid Clinic of Texas

Trans Legal Aid Clinic of Texas (TLACT, formerly Trans Legal Aid Clinic Houston) assists trans and non-binary folks living in Texas or who were born in Texas with name and gender marker corrections on their identification documents. This work is especially important as trans and non-binary Texans are targeted by the state legislature. Unlike most legal aid providers, TLACT has no income, asset, or other criteria to attend our clinics. TLACT's volunteer attorneys provide information, guidance, and all tools needed for adults and minors to correct their name and/or gender marker on their identification documents (driver's license, birth certificate, bank accounts, passport, etc.). TLACT also provides financial assistance to clinic participants to eliminate any financial barriers to correcting their identification documents -- a major hurdle for a large portion of the trans and non-binary community, which is disparately impacted by poverty, unemployment and underemployment.
