Treasure Valley Community Television, Inc. is an independent non-profit corporation governed by a locally elected board of directors. Currently, we are partially funded by a percentage of Cable One Cable gross revenues through Boise City government. However, we are losing 42% of this money in October, 2013. The daily operation of the station is run by one part-time employee and several community volunteers.

What does TVcTV do?
TVcTV provides a forum for debate on local issues; inform residents about services available in the community; allow limited-run productions (plays or other events) a life on video; expand the audience for a local band, poet or craftsperson; allow people who can’t attend an event the opportunity to see it anyway; give people a fresh perspective on aspects of our community; follow a subject or issue on a regular basis; present a documentary view of a neighbor, friend or organization in town that’s doing something interesting; teach skills ranging from gardening to origami; change people’s stereotypes; change your life. There’s a whole new generation of programming to come on the new TVCTV. And it’s up to you to make it!

History

  • In 1997 local community members formed Boiseans for Public Access and convinced the city to include provisions for public access TV in its new cable franchise agreement.
  • In 1999 Treasure Valley Public Access Television (TVTV) was formed as a non-profit organization and was awarded a city contract to operate a public access station.
  • In 2000 TVTV volunteers remodeled a former gas station at 6225 Overland Road to create a Community Media Center, equipped with a TV studio, editing suites and offices.
  • In January 2001, TVTV went on the air and has since been cable casting continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Beginning with a single paid staff member, TVTV has expanded to a full-time Executive Director, a half-time Office Manager and a Technical Assistance Coordinator. Its operating budget has grown from $25,000 per year to $139,000.
  • TVTV has had over 650 producers and has provided hands-on training to hundreds of community members, especially through its TVTV Youth Camps. TVTV airs 1500 hours of local programs annually, including arts, public affairs, sports, entertainment and religious shows.
  • TVTV has provided live coverage of Boise City Council meetings since 2004.
  • In 2006, TVTV became Treasure Valley Community Television when it added a second cable channel, GET98 for governmental, educational and health programming.
  • Our 2500 sq. ft. headquarters is centrally located on Overland Road in Boise. It includes a full production television studio, six non-linear edit bays, three remote camera kits. TVCTV also operates and cablecasts Boise City Council meetings using a five cameras, robotic camera system adjacent to the city council chambers.
  • TVcTV cablecasts directly from the studios on 2 channels 11 & 98. The signal is distributed via fiber optics to 70,000 homes in the Treasure Valley, on the Cable One cable system.
