Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF), based in Reno, Nevada, is an incorporated, nonprofit organization founded in 2012 by members of the community concerned about the economic impact on parks within the geographic area known as Truckee Meadows.

TMPF strives to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the Truckee Meadows by ensuring the long-term sustainability and improvement of our parks. We accomplish this by offering park-based educational and recreational programs designed to increase community-wide awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of Truckee Meadows parks. TMPF also provides strategic financial support for new and existing park infrastructure and programs.

With your help, we support parks in the following ways:

Through the Healthy Parks Healthy People: Truckee Meadows initiative, we offer park-based educational and recreational programs designed to increase community-wide awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of our parks. Click here to see our programs.

Through our outreach and public awareness campaign we help inform the public on the successes and challenges park managers face, and provide a forum for park users to voice their concerns and aggregate advocacy power.

Through private funding for park projects. Our main avenue for supporting park infrastructure, programs, and maintenance is the Truckee Meadows Parks Endowment. We are currently taking pledges toward an initial goal of $50,000. Funds generated through the endowment will help our park partners to leverage larger grants. The endowment will be administered through the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

A few accomplishments from the past year:

  • The “Discover Your Parks” free weekly walks engaged 486 community members.
  • Over 375 families, school district employees, individuals, and groups participated in the Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge.
  • As fiscal sponsor to the Virginia Lake Dog Park Restoration Association, we worked with Robison Engineering Co., Silverwing Construction, and the City of Reno to plan significant improvements to the dog park.
  • The Parks Rephotography Project gave people a new way to get civically engaged, connect with the history of our region, and express themselves artistically.
  • Our new Student Stewards Program is beginning to turn local parks into learning laboratories where kids participate in real, hands-on citizen science projects designed to instill an appreciation of the environment and our public lands.

Currently TMPF is seeking funding for the following projects:

  • Student Stewards- We are currently creating curriculum to bring to local schools this spring. We need donations in order to provide all the necessary learning materials and to create a scholarship program that will allow the Student Stewards program to be brought to Title 1 schools at no cost.
  • Free park based programming- We offer programs and events, like our Discover Your Parks- Weekly Evening Walks" at no cost. This program has grown immensely in popularity, and without some sort of funding; the program faces unwanted changes.
