UC Davis Women’s Rowing is a self-funded club program that aims to empower and set up our athletes for success on and off the water. As a non-profit sports club, our team receives minimal funding from the university, and the high cost of the sport means we must rely on outside sources of funding, such as dues and fundraising. Due to our efforts to keep membership affordable, rowers’ dues are insufficient to cover all the costs needed to keep our competitive club moving forward at full speed. This is why fundraisers, and the support of our community are so important for our team. Every year our team sends athletes to compete in the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) National Championship, the largest collegiate regatta in the country. This year the regatta will be held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from May 17th to May 19th. We plan to send two boats, an eight and a pair, to compete on a national level. In order to reduce financial barriers, our goal is for the majority of ACRA expenses to come directly from the money we fundraise every year. This money pays for flights, hotel costs, and food for our athletes, as well as the expenses for boat entries, car rentals, gas, and parking. In total, ACRA expenses will be over $13,000. With your support, we are able to introduce new women to the wonderful sport of rowing and allow them to compete on a national level regardless of experience or financial background.
