The Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago is one of the oldest cultural institutions established by Ukrainians in North America. It is dedicated to the collection, documentation, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and publications dealing with Ukrainian culture and heritage. By making its resources available for study and research, it is instrumental in the dissemination and advancement of knowledge about Ukraine and the Ukrainian ethnic community in the United States.
We are:
- A museum dedicated to collecting and preserving Ukrainian documents and artifacts.
- A center for education, scholarship and research, dedicated to sharing knowledge and information about Ukraine’s art, culture and history.
- A museum that shares and expands knowledge about Ukraine and the Ukrainian ethnic community.
- A unique and integral part of Chicago’s dynamic Ukrainian Village.
- A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that uses charitable contributions to support and advance our mission of the dissemination and advancement of knowledge about Ukraine and the Ukrainian ethnic community in the United States.
We accomplish:
- We organize exhibitions from the museum’s permanent collection to help educate the public about Ukrainian art, culture and history.
- We conduct a wide range of public programming, often in collaboration with other museums, educational institutions, and cultural centers, to share the common immigration experience.
- We host workshops in the traditional Ukrainian art of Pysanka (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) writing.
- We provide a venue for Ukrainian artist to exhibit their art and connect art lovers and enthusiasts with emerging and established local and international artists.
- We feature Ukrainian American authors and poets in literary nights and book launches dedicated to sharing Ukrainian literature with the Chicago community.
- As a center for education, scholarship and research, museum members are able to borrow from the thousands of books available in our library. Ukrainian scholars, from the United States and overseas, have resourced the museum’s archives to conduct research utilizing unique documents and publications that are found only in our museum.
- We welcome approximately 6,000 visitors per year, 80 % of whom are Americans and travelers from others countries.
- We share the history of Ukrainian immigration to the United States, which dates back well over 100 years, which is chronicled in the Museum's rich collection of archival photographs and documents.

The Ukrainian National Museum has participated in a number of programs and is affiliated with the Ukrainian Museums and Archives in the USA, the Chicago Cultural Alliance, the Association of Midwest Museums, the American Association for State and Local History, the Illinois Association of Museums and Choose Chicago.
